Comment: Hi guys. Back in the mid-late 1980’s I was the studio manager & recording engineer for Park Ave. Sound Studios in Huntington. We had a small 8 track studio & monthly rehearsal rooms for bands. I bought a bunch of recording/rehearsal studio gear from Charlie Proper (Fostex – great gear for the $$$$), a Rick 4002 (Still have it – still play occasionly); and most of the musician’s shopped regularly at the Commack store (Charlie P & Tom – thanks forever). I had dealt with Charlie P at that “other music store” – but loved F2 better – you guys were always there for us, always helpful, and gave us some great deals on stuff. Seems like we were always there.
I moved on from the music biz, still on Long Island, now I’m still doing high-tech stuff (and A/V stuff) – but I have great memories of the 80’s – and F2 was definitely at the top of my list 🙂
Hope you’re doing well – and thank you for the opportunity to remember & reflect – much appreciated! If you still communicate with Mr. Proper – please give him a big Hello & Thank You!!!

Comment: When the store opened in Bellmore I quickly became a loyal customer. I was only 15 and it was the only music shop I could get to on a bicycle. I was already making good money gigging and most of it went back into gear so I spent a lot of money there.

Charlie had a way of making you feel like he recognized you when you walked in and that you were good friends, a great thing to have when you’re in sales. Later I realized that was all it was, so every couple of years when I’m in the area I like to drop in and mess with him by turning the tables and calling him by name and asking how he’s doing…

I wish him well, I still have a Focus II Guitar Center gig bag and most of the gear I bought there 30+ years later.

Rock on…

Comment: Yep.  Adam G. and I used to frequent Focus II, between 1978 and 1983.    Charlie, Tom and Eric were always there for us, and I think as teenagers we probably pestered them constantly 🙂  Wish I had the guitars now, that I bought then (at Focus): 1980 Maple Strat, 1984? Washburn A-20, countless effects and some keyboards.  Good times and fond memories!   Used to kill me looking at all the LP’s hanging on the wall!  Especially the 25/50 edition…  I WANTED that!!

Comment: I started taking lessons from Tom LoVarco in 1978. I still remember receiving the call from him at my house in Seaford, NY. I started working there in 1980-1984. I remember every Saturday cleaning the glass counters and emptying the ash trays. Charlie, Tom and I would order Roast Beef sandwiches with melted munster cheese and Ice Tea. We had so many laughes. I met Jimmy Crespo from Aerosmith there, Adrian Blu ( I took his guitar home and his vox amp and played them ) Steve Vai. Yorma Kokunon ( Hot Tuna )
Of couse John Edge aka ( The Hedge ), Gene Woska, Thorgo, I can’t remember them all, but I still laugh about today.

Tom, Lorraine and Charlie always treated me so well. I can’t thank them enough…( I have tears in my eyes as I write this email ) I currenly live in Apex, NC since 1991.

I saw Tom and Lorraine in 1994 in Balitmore, MD and we took some pix.

Comment: I remember walking in the store and see this really cool looking guitar, a B.C Rich Warlock. I remember Tom taking it down from the wall. When I played it, I knew I had to have it !! I was play ‘Crazy Train” and this guy sitting next to me was playing some really cool leads. When the guy left he shook my hand see ya later ! The guy turns out to be Steve Vai ! I bought one of his records at the time,”Flexable” I still listen to Steve some 30 years later. That store till this day brings back some great memories. I also bought a Westbury guitar and an ice pink Ibanez Pro Line Series w/ a Floyd Rose. Till this day, I still own it and it’s In pristine condition! Thank you Tom and Charlie for a great time in my life !!
